An initiative of Partners For Youth Inc., Dots NB is committed to Excellence in kids’ mental health in New Brunswick through youth, family, and community empowerment.
Dots NB was co-created by Maureen Bilerman and Cindy Miles. Maureen tells the story of how her experiences as the mother of a teen with mental health issues led to the creation of Dots NB—Promoting Kids’ Mental Health through Family Empowerment. Bilerman says “No family should ever have to go through the suffering that mental illness brings when the necessary services are unavailable.”
The name and vision for Dots NB is a direct nod to a report written in 2008 by former Child and Youth Advocate, Bernard Richard, entitled “Connecting the Dots: A report on the condition of youth-at-risk and youth with very complex needs in New Brunswick.”
The street images are taken from the Dots for Youth Campaign on Wednesday, December 8th, 2010, when over 1200 people formed a human chain by connecting the dots, fingertip-to-fingertip, from the Victoria Health Centre to the Provincial Legislature in Fredericton, New Brunswick (1.3 km). The demonstration was a show of support for the creation of a Centre of Excellence for Children and Youth with Complex Needs.
